A great retrospective isn’t just about documenting what happened — it’s about bringing your team together to uncover the insights that lead to real improvements in your process, roles, and technology. But to make that happen, retrospectives need to be structured enough to be effective, flexible enough to fit your team, and easy to collaborate on.
That’s exactly what we set out to build. In December, we launched our new Retrospective experience in beta, and since then, we’ve been all ears. We’ve taken your feedback, fine-tuned the experience, and packed in even more powerful functionality to make Retrospectives more customizable, collaborative, and actionable than anything else on the market.
And now, we’re excited to say…the new Retrospective experience is officially available to everyone!
With the new experience, you’ll get:
✅ Built-in best practices to help your team run structured, insightful retros.
✅ Deep customization so you can tailor retros to fit your team’s unique workflows and incident types.
✅ Seamless collaboration with real-time editing and better ways to style and share your retros.

📑 Build retros your way with the Template Builder
Every incident is different, and your retrospectives should reflect that. Our new customizable Templates give you more control over how you run retros, so you can capture the right details, every time.
With deeper configuration options, you can:
- Decide which key incident data is automatically included, ensuring nothing slips through the cracks.
- Add questions, along with templating, that provides structure around your retros
- Adapt templates to fit different teams or incident types, so retros are always relevant and actionable. *Multiple templates are available for Enterprise customers.
🤖 Put AI to work with AI-generated answers
Our AI can automatically suggest answers based on incident data, helping you quickly fill in key details like what happened, contributing factors, and action items. This means less time writing and digging for answers, and more time learning from the incident.
👯 Make it a team sport with real-time collaborative editing
With the ability to see exactly which teammates are writing and editing in real time, your entire team can contribute simultaneously. Collaborative editing is available to Enterprise customers.
We’ve also added a rich text editor to your retros, so you can style it any way you’d like. Add headings, bold, italicize, code snippets, images – you get the idea 😉 For deeper customization, feel free to use markdown.
📊 Create polished, beautiful reports
Easily export your Retrospectives to Google Docs, Confluence, or PDF. We’ll maintain the same formatting, so it’s instantly ready to share with leadership, compliance teams, or anyone else who needs visibility.
💪 Streamline workflows with new Runbook steps
Automate the busywork so your team can focus on what really matters. With our new Runbook steps, you can:
- Attach one or more Retrospective Templates to incidents automatically. You can also attach multiple templates to incidents manually.
- Automatically export Retrospective Templates to Confluence or Google Docs — so documentation stays in sync across all your tools.
✨ Get guided support with built-in best practices
With this release, we’re introducing more guidance and built-in best practices to the experience, combining industry best practices and insights we’ve gained from years of working with teams like yours.
✅ Follow the checklist: A built-in checklist guides you through every step of conducting an effective retrospective, with actionable links to keep you on track. Want to tweak it? You can easily edit, delete, or add checklist items to fit your team’s workflow.
📝 Create Templates faster with suggestions: We’ve now added the option to start a Retrospective Template with suggestions. Rather than starting from scratch, you’ll hit the ground running with pre-filled questions and commonly used incident data already built in.
