Publish an incident to status page using a Runbook step

Using FireHydrant's Status Pages feature, it's easy to publish an incident status page right from a Runbook.

Adding a runbook step

If you already have one or more status pages set up for your organization, you can get started by selecting the runbook to which you want to add a publishing step from the Runbooks configuration area.

In the "Steps" section, select "Publish to status page" from the "Step Type" drop-down and click the "+ Add a Step" button.

Next, you can customize what will happen when the step runs. You can assign a name to this step that will show up in the runbook. The "title" field allows you to use template parameters to set the title users will see on the published status page. Select the specific page or pages to which you want this step to publish.

Finally, if you want this step to execute automatically, you can select that option. Make sure to save your changes.

Running your step

During an incident, if you attach the runbook you just configured, you can now see your step waiting to be executed. Here, I put the step in the "Status Page" runbook, but you could put it in whatever runbook is convenient, including the "Default" runbook. Before running the step, you can tweak some options like "title" and "page". If the step was set to run automatically you won't be able to alter the settings you configured when adding the step.

When you are ready, hit the "Execute now" button and you will publish the incident to your selected pages. Head on over and check it out!

Updating your runbook step

If you need to update your step, simply navigate to the relevant runbook in the "Process Runbooks" section click the "Edit Runbook" icon. Then scroll down to the runbook step you want to update and hit the pencil icon.

Alter any values as appropriate and hit "Save".
